The Valiant Ones

I thought it was interesting how in this film, King Hu didn’t use the intense drumming as much as he did in his previous films. I noticed that he mostly used it at times where he wanted the suspense to be very apparent, whereas in his previous films, I noticed that he would use it any time there was action. I kind of like how he used it in this film because it wasn’t overkill and I feel like it added more meaning and drama to the suspenseful parts. In addition to him using less of the the dramatic drumming, his decision to keep the fighting scenes primarily silent (with the exception of the swords hitting each other) was a great idea. I feel like it added to the tension because you could just feel how intense it was between the characters because there was no other background noise or music that the audience could focus on. valiant-onesvaliantones-box
